MUMBAI: India seam bowling allrounder Shardul Thakur, who was originally picked for the West Zone squad for the upcoming Duleep Trophy, has now been called for the ongoing India ‘A’ versus New Zealand ‘A’ three-match four-day series in Bangalore, TOI has learnt.
According to sources, Thakur has been replaced in the West Zone squad by Saurashtra’s 24-year-old left-arm seamer Chetan Sakaria, who played 1 ODI and 2 T20Is for India on their tour of Sri Lanka in July last year.
While the first India ‘A’ versus New Zealand ‘A’ match is currently on, Thakur is likely to be available for the next game in Hubballi from September 8. It’s still not clear Thakur is replacing an injured pacer, or just being added to the India ‘A’ squad.
West Zone, meanwhile, will be coached by Tushar Arothe, the former coach of the India women’s team.
